When the retainer is in a neutral position, elastic deformation of an engaging part 11 is limited with a limiting part 21. When the retainer is in a pressing position or pulling position, the engaging part is enabled to elastically deform. The retainer contacts the housing in the pulling position and is capable of detaching the connector from the connector connecting part on the apparatus side by moving the retainer in the separating direction.

      SOLUTION: A male housing 20 is provided with: cavities 23 for inserting male terminal fittings 10 each equipped with a nearly box-shaped body part 12; and a retainer mounting hole 27 for mounting a retainer 40. In each cavity 23, a lance 24 lockable to the terminal fitting 10 is formed. The mounting hole 27 is formed by being opened in three directions in the male housing 20. Each coming-off prevention part 45 is provided with a plunging projection part 55 capable of plunging a locking step part 16 and a projecting part 17 formed at the rear end of the body part 12 to a position projecting frontward relative to the front edge 27a of the mounting hole 27 when the retainer 40 is mounted to a regular lock position. Thereby, even if the terminal fitting 10 is pulled with the retainer 40 dropped out, and retreated in the range of a clearance between the lance 24 and itself, the step part 16 and the projecting part 17 is prevented from reaching a region behind the front edge 27a of the mounting hole 27a.
