    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having excellent heavy load discharging characteristic. SOLUTION: This flat nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is characterized by fitting a metal negative electrode case working as a negative electrode terminal and a metal positive electrode case working as a positive electrode terminal which are fitted to each other through an insulating gasket and caulking the positive electrode case or the negative electrode case through caulking process to have sealing structure, and enclosing at least a power generating element including an electrode group in which multiple layers of positive electrode plates and negative plates respectively formed with an active material containing layer on one surface or both surfaces of a structural material having conductivity are arranged opposite to each other through a separator, and nonaqueous electrolyte inside thereof, and setting a ratio of a facing area A (cm 2 ) of the active material containing layer of the positive plate and the working material included layer of the negative electrode plate inside the electrode group to an opening area B (cm 2 ) of the insulating gasket to be 1.6 or more.
