    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for efficiently executing volume reduction work for spent control rods removed from a reactor, in a nuclear power station, and for reducing fine particles generated accompanying the volume reduction work.
      SOLUTION: A system (S) for reducing volume of the spent control rods (20a) removed from the reactor of the nuclear power station comprises a first cutter (40) for cutting the ends (25) in the longitudinal direction of control rods (20a) into end-cut rods (20b), a second cutter (50) for cutting the end-cut rods (20b) along the longitudinal direction into vertical-cut pieces (20c), a rack (60) for placing the control rods (20a) and/or the end-cut rods (20b), a container (70) for containing the vertical-cut pieces (20c), and a carrier (30) capable of carrying both the end-cut rods (20b) and the vertical-cut pieces (20c).
