    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken an access to a positionally discontinuous data arranged on a recorder.
SOLUTION: A retrieval system comprises a controller for controlling retrieval processing, and the recorder mounted with a read-ahead command for storing an assignment data in a cache memory built in the recorder. The controller indicates data read-ahead required in the next to the recorder, using the read-ahead command, during processing of the data, the recorder reads out the assigned data from a recording medium, to be stored into the cache memory, and the data is thereby read quickly from the recorder built in the recorder, without accessing the recording medium, when the controller reads the next data from the recorder. A hit rate of the cache memory is also enhanced to quicken the reading, by adding a priority and a protection flag to an area indicated and read by the read-ahead command to control efficiently the cache memory.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain consistency of a duplicate data base as continuing a transaction processing and to access a physical duplicate data base without changing an application program to access a data base at a duplicating origin when the physical duplicate data base is created by cutting off one of multiply written or duplicated data base areas on an external storage device. SOLUTION: When one of the multiply written or duplicated data base areas is cut off on the external storage device, a data base management system writes data at a state that the consistency is maintained in the external storage device and provides a means capable of controlling timing to cut off the duplicated data base areas. In addition, a new piece of physical definition information to be required for access to the duplicated data base is dynamically added based on the physical definition information of a data base at a duplicating origin and provides a means capable of selecting whether the data base on the duplicating origin is accessed or a data base at a duplicating destination is accessed is provided.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep consistency of a replicated database while continuing transaction processing when one of multi-written or replicated database areas in an external storage unit is separated to create a physical replicated database, and to enable the physical replicated database to be accessed without changing an application program accessing a replication source database. SOLUTION: When one of database areas multi-written or replicated in external storage units 108 to 109 is separated, a database management system 101 writes data in a consistent state into the external storage units 108 to 110 and controls timing of separating the replicated database area. Furthermore, new physical definition information necessary to access the replicated database is dynamically added on the basis of physical definition information of the replication source database and it is selected whether to access the replication source database or access the replicated database. • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the influence of the shortage of a free space by asynchronously and automatically expanding a file by another processing process while continuing a record operation job in a conventional space when the free space in the file becomes equal to or smaller than a fixed quantity.
SOLUTION: A file expansion chance detection means 3 monitors a remaining free space quantity in a file 22 as the expansion of a record operation means 2 and when the remaining free space quantity becomes equal to or smaller than a fixed space quantity registered by a file expansion information registering means 1, the means 3 requests the automatic expansion of a file to a file asynchronous expansion means 4. The expansion means 4 prepares new space management information 43 by a processing process 62 different from a record operation means 2 to perform the expansion of a space and initialization of the expanded space.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an operation management cost in a usual mode while maintaining the recovery of a deficit-free database and the online performance of a site. SOLUTION: A first system is comprised of a main storage 103 storing a DB (Data Base) 107 and a main computer 100 running a main DBMS (Data Base Management System) 101 providing the DB. A second system includes a sub storage 113 receiving the copy of a log indicative of the update difference of the DB 107 from the main storage 103 and storing a sub-DB 117, and a subset 500 recovering the sub-DB 117 based on the log copied from the main storage 103. When the first system fails, the first system is switched to the second system, and a second computer 110 operating a second DBMS 111 is added to the second system. Then, the second computer 110 takes over the sub-DB 117 recovered or under recovery in the subset 500. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the added value of a DR system and make the operation of a secondary site easy by creating a backup having consistency in transaction level and providing a business on the secondary site. SOLUTION: A secondary DB 117 is recovered by a log 106 including the update difference of a primary DB 107. A command is added to the log 106, and the log is analyzed at a secondary site 2 to execute the command. An operation command is transferred through the log and executed, and consequently the operation command is executed to a DB having consistency in transaction at the secondary site 2 in the same timing as a primary site 1 or in intended timing. When the command instructs to generate a snap shot, a plurality of volumes of a mirror set 350 constituting a secondary storage device 113 are brought to a pair state, and the secondary DB 117 is written to each volume to synchronize the volumes. After the synchronization is completed, the mirror set 350 is brought to a split state to store a secondary DB 118. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
