      SOLUTION: In the fuel cell, when a value obtained by subtracting the thickness of an electrolyte layer 4c after pressurizing from a distance between positive and negative current collectors 3, 6 after pressurizing is set to A, a sum of a thickness of a positive diffusion layer 4a before pressurizing and a thickness of a negative diffusion layer 4e before pressurizing is set to B, the sum of the thickness of a positive electrode catalyst layer 4b before pressurizing and the thickness of a negative electrode catalyst layer 4d before pressurizing is set to C, and a relation A=xB+C is set, the positive and the negative electrodes are pressurized so that x becomes within a range 0.1-0.8 between the positive and the negative current collectors 3, 6. The mass per unit area of the catalyst contained in the negative electrode catalyst layer 4d is set to 120-500% of the mass per unit area of the catalyst contained in the positive electrode catalyst layer 4b.

The absorption part 15 contains a nitrogen-containing compound and water-absorbing material.
