    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device which can control a luminance deterioration of a PDP and improve a contrast.
      SOLUTION: The plasma display device is provided with an X electrode (a first electrode) 14 and a Y electrode (a second electrode) 15 composing a display electrode pair, an address electrode 20, and cells 25 formed at each of crossings between the display electrode pair and the address electrode 20. At a time of a resetting discharge for forming electric charge on a whole of a plurality of cells 25, the X electrode 14 becomes a cathode, and the Y electrode an anode, while at a time of a sustaining discharge for forming a display image, the X electrode and the Y electrode become a cathode or an anode alternately and a repeated discharge is conducted. In this case, distribution of a visible light transmitting factor in the cells 25 in a front substrate structural body (a first substrate structural body) has a first region 30 and a second region 31 having higher visible light transmitting factor than that of the first region 30, and the first region 30 includes a region lapping on an X transparent electrode 14a (a transparent electrode portion) in a thickness direction, and the second region 31 includes a region lapping on a Y transparent electrode 15a (a transparent electrode portion) in a thickness direction.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten required time of lighting inspection concerning a lighting inspection method and inspection display for a plasma display panel.
      SOLUTION: In order to determine the quality of a lighting state of the plasma display panel for color display use, frames consisting of a first sub-frame making all cells in a screen to be lit and a second sub-flame making all cells in the screen not to be lit are repeatedly displayed. To display the first sub-frame, a reset operation for lowering wall voltage of each cell in the screen, a whole-face lighting addressing operation of impressing scan pulses on one cell after another in line inside the screen with a plurality of address electrodes while being biased to a selected potential in bulk, and a sustaining operation of impressing a sustaining pulse on cells in the screen all at once are carried out. To display the second sub-frame, a reset operation, a whole-face non-lighting addressing operation of impressing scan pulses on one cell after another in line inside the screen with the plurality of address electrodes while being maintained at a non-selected potential in bulk, and a sustaining operation are carried out.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an individual potential control to a plurality of address electrodes, and to shorten time required for lighting inspection. SOLUTION: In order to determine right and wrong of a lighting condition in a display panel, a checking display for a plasma display panel repeatedly displays a frame constituted from both or either of a first sub-frame requiring to light up the whole cells in a display panel, and a second sub-frame not requiring to light up the whole cells. In order to display the second sub-frame, the checking display sequentially performs a reset operation to reduce the remaining wall charge between the scan-maintaining electrode and the address electrode at each cell in the display panel, the whole-surface addressing operation, and the sustaining operation.
