      SOLUTION: A storage system includes at least two or more storage nodes and a network, each of the storage nodes having a means for measuring information network distances to the other storage node and to a client connected to the network. In the storage system, when a client is connected a search is conducted using a query of objects that the client needs, so as to extract objects stored in each storage object and having a high degree of adaptability to the query and to concentrate the extracted objects on the storage node determined to be close to the client by the means for measuring information network distances of the storage nodes.

It is determined whether the file can be determined or not in reference to the meta information for each of the specified lower directories, and the lower directory that cannot determine the file is excluded from the specified lower directories (S212).       SOLUTION: Original data from a host device is divided into a plurality of stripe data, and stores the stripe data into the plurality of storage devices, to be managed (data management part: constituted of a CPU and a memory). At least one of the storages has a capacity different from those of the other storage devices. The data management part determines a size of the stripe data according to each capacity of the storage devices, and controls the stripe data of the same size to be stored in each storage device. The data management part manages, as a chunk, a data set constituted of each one of the stripe data to be stored in the plurality of storage devices. The original data is constituted of a set of the chunks. The above is the same in a RAID 0 and a RAID 5.
