    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for reducing the circuit scale related to restored image processing in an image pick-up device, configured to increase the focal depth by modulating an optical image and to remove the modulation by restored image processing, and for making the image pick-up device also applicable to capturing of video.SOLUTION: An image pick-up device includes an image sensor (3), an optical system (2) including a phase plate (21) for modulating the optical transfer function of the optical image of an object, and focusing the optical image modulated through the phase plate (21) on the image capturing surface of the image sensor (3), and a spatial filtering section (6) performing restored image processing for removing the modulation by an optical phase filter, by performing two-dimensional spatial filtering of a focused image on the image capturing surface of the image sensor (3). Modulation characteristics given to the optical image by the phase plate (21) are differentiated in two horizontal and vertical directions orthogonal to each other, on the image capturing plane perpendicular to an optical axis.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce or eliminate the distinction of a brightness difference in boundaries between backlight blocks by providing a light-and-dark difference inside the blocks into which a backlight device is divided.
      SOLUTION: The backlight device includes the plurality of backlight blocks 4 each of which has a light emitting source including a LED or a fluorescent tube, a light guide plate for guiding beams from the light emitting source to the side of a liquid crystal panel, and a reflecting sheet arranged on the reverse of the light guide plate, and which are arranged side by side in combination. Herein, a dark brightness portion 12 and a medium light-and-dark brightness portion 13 are formed as light-and-dark difference patterns between which there is a light-and-dark difference in the brightness of beams emitted from the backlight blocks 4. The brightness unevenness of the light-and-dark difference patterns from the backlight blocks 4 eliminates the brightness distinction of a light brightness portion 11 as a light brightness pattern of beams emitted from boundaries between the backlight blocks.
