    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display apparatus and a method for driving a plasma display panel by which luminance is improved while preventing decrease in resolution.
      SOLUTION: The plasma display apparatus displays an interlace signal and is equipped with: a maximum sustain pulse number counting means 61 configured to count the maximum number of sustain pulses associated with emission of light that can be made within one field, based on the vertical synchronization signal frequency of the input signal; a display load factor calculating means 50 configured to calculate a display load factor of the input signal in the one field; a target sustain pulse number determining means 62 configured to determine the target number of sustain pulses for the one field based on the display load factor calculated by the display load factor calculating means; and an emission luminance ratio determining means 63 configured to determine the emission luminance ratio of a sub-display line to a main-display line in the one field based on a relationship between the target number of sustain pulses determined by the target sustain pulse number determining means and the maximum number of sustain pulses.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a picture memory used for the generation of a vertical line picture whose width is thin by providing a latch circuit which detects the continuity of the output data of the picture memory and an AND circuit. CONSTITUTION:When the output of a picture memory 2 is continued for more than 2 clocks, and turned to a logic 1, the input and output of a latch circuit 3 are simultaneously turned to the logic 1. Then, the output of an AND circuit 7 is turned to 1, and the output of an OR circuit 5 is turned to 1. On the contrary, when the output of the picture memory 2 is turned to 1 only for one clock, the input and output of the latch circuit 3 can not be simultaneously turned to 1. Therefore, the output of the AND circuit 7 is 0 as it is, and the output of the latch circuit 3 is turned to 1. The output of the latch circuit 3 is inputted to a pulse width control circuit 4, and a dot output whose pulse width is narrow is inputted to an OR circuit 6. At that time, the output of the AND circuit 7 is 0, and the dot is displayed on a display tube 9. Thus, a display pattern whose horizontal width is narrow can be generated by the memory whose capacity is reduced by the pulse width control.

    • PURPOSE:To correct deviation in the convergence on the entire screen with simple configuration and high accuracy by adjusting convergence for 4 light receiving sections of plural photodetectors arranged around the screen so as to obtain a correction quantity. CONSTITUTION:Plural numbers of photodetectors 13a-13h are arranged at the outside of a display screen of a projection display device incorporating a digital convergence correction device and a function of adjusting data in a frame memory 3 so as to make a pattern of light receiving sections of the photodetectors 13a-13h coincident with an adjustment pattern. Furthermore, adjustment data resulting from the adjustment of convergence for the entire display screen and adjustment data by the adjustment function before the occurrence of convergence are stored in advance. When any convergence deviation takes place, the adjustment function is used again for the adjustment, the adjustment data in this case and the adjustment data stored in advance are calculated to obtain a corresponding correction quantity to the pattern of the light receiving section and the correction quantity for the entire screen is obtained through interpolation calculation from the correction quantity to correct convergence deviation for the entire display screen.
