In accordance with an address signal generated by the control part 52, the synthesizing part 48 transmits two types of image information of the color information adder 47 and the character generating part 46 to a video memory 49. A recognized result character string arranged near character patterns is converted into a video signal and impressed on a CRT display part 50.

CONSTITUTION:An objective document 10 is converted to an electric signal by a scanner 22, and noise or the like in the signal is eliminated by a preprocessing 23 and the resulted signal is preserved in a buffer memory 24. Contents of the memory 24 are read out successively to a recognizing part 25 and are encoded to characters and are preserved in a memory 20. A segmenting part 26 obtains a histogram in the horizontal direction of the read image to segment a block. The output of the recognizing part 25 is collated with the keyword inputted from an input part 27 by a collating part 28; and if they coincide with each other, a coincidence signal is outputted to a decision part 29. The decision part 29 obtains block information for generation of the coincidence signal from the segmenting part 26 and reads a required code from the memory 20 to obtain a result in an output A. Thus, the capacity of the memory is reduced to facilitate retrieval.

    • PURPOSE: To avoid the regular reflection and to improve the intensity of illumination, by illuminating a surface to be irradiated with a planar light source which is formed with the luminous flux given from a light beam radiating aperture part and at the same time providing a diffusing/reflecting surface at the opposite side to the light source centering on a normal line of the surface to be irradiated and approximately in parallel to the normal line.
      CONSTITUTION: A point P on a surface 62 to be irradiated is illuminated by a planar light source 61 like a fluorescent lamp having an aperture part ML. A diffusing/reflecting surface 63 is set at the side opposite to the light source 61 centering on a normal line PQ at the point P and approximately in parallel to the line PQ. Then the point P is irradiated by the diffused and reflected light. An angle ϕ formed by an end M of the part ML and the line PQ is set larger than an incident angle obtained when the regular reflection is produced at the point P. In addition, it is avoided for the outer tube of the fluorescent lamp 61 to come over the luminous flux SS' of the reflected light at the point P. The regular reflection is produced at a small recess on the paper due to a ball pen, etc. This improves the luminous intensity at the point P, and at the same time the regular reflection is avoided at the point P to ensure an accurate photoelectric conversion.

The pattern information of the memory 3 is added to a segmenting part 6 together with the format information of the memory 5. The part 6 segments a character pattern on the paper by a known method. The segmented character pattern is recognized by a recognizing part 7, and the result of this recognition is sent to an output device 8. It is more convenient to read the format information into the memory 5 from an external memory 9 and to use the format information produced previously.

The cutting section 3 detects character parts from the electric signal and sends the character parts to a character pattern recognizing section 4 and, at the same time, supplies positional information of the stubbed characters, such as position, size, etc., to an encoding section 5. Moreover, a recognized result code from the recognizing section 4 is also sent to the encoding section 5 where the recognised result code is encoded and code information of one character is obtained. The code information is given to a storage device 6. By having a character code together with information of a two-dimensional plane, a two-dimensional pattern can be reproduced in the form of a fair copy.

      CONSTITUTION: When reading is impossible with an input Chinese character, an operator feeds the number of strokes, for example, of the input character through a keyboard 1. In this case, the radical information such as sides, right- hand radicals, etc. can substitute the number of strokes. When receiving this input, a processor 2 gives access to a code conversion table 3 to deliver plural character codes 10 and to supply them to a character generator 5 via a sector 4. Then the generator 5 converts these character codes into character patterns and displays plural candidate character patterns to a display 6. Thus the operator decides a corresponding character pattern among those patterns displayed at the display 6 and feeds it. Thus it is possible to feed even a Chinese characrer with which both the sound reading and Japanese rendering are impossible.
