      SOLUTION: The device for detecting a magnetic flaw includes a magnet 6 for magnetizing a wire rope 5 provided an elevator and a magnetization detector 2 with a magnetic sensor 7 for detecting magnetic fluxes leaked from a damaged portion of the wire rope 5. The magnetization detector 2 includes a first magnetization detector 2a arranged on the first wire rope 5a of the wire rope 5, a second magnetization detector 2g arranged on the second wire rope 5g of the wire rope 5, and a third magnetization detector 2d arranged on the third wire rope 5d of the wire rope 5. The magnetic forces of the first magnetization detector 2a and the second magnetization detector 2g are equal to each other and the force of the third magnetization detector 2d is smaller that those of the first magnetization detector 2a and the second magnetization detector 2g.

According to the surface temperature and the environmental temperature, the computer 34 calculates the traveling resistance of the moving handrail 12 while the escalator 1 is operated, based on the calculated value of the traveling resistance, calculates the boundary value between the normal traveling speed and the abnormally low traveling speed of the moving handrail, and compares the measured value of the traveling speed with the boundary value. When the measured value is equal to or less than the boundary value, it determines that a slip occurs between the moving handrail 12 and drive rollers 13 to 15, driven rollers 16 to 18.
