    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine, achieving integration of two types of ignition devices having greatly different required specifications.
      SOLUTION: In this ignition device for the internal combustion engine, a capacitor discharge ignitor (CDI) and a self-excitation thyristor series inverter type ignition device overlap with each other to perform discharge, the self-excitation thyristor series inverter type ignition device setting a thyristor series inverter circuit into oscillation by self-excitation with an ignition coil as a load and making a plurality of sparks fly to an ignition plug discharge clearance at high voltage generated on the side of the second winding of the ignition coil. Since the secondary winding of the CDI and secondary winding of the self-excitation thyristor series inverter type ignition device are used together, two types of the ignition devices having greatly different required specifications, that is, the CDI which is required to have excellent magnetic coupling and the self-excitation thyristor series inverter type ignition device which can not improve the magnetic coupling more than necessary, are integrated with each other, and ignitability is improved.
