    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a molding die of desired shape by precisely measuring the shape of even a lens or the molding die with a curved surface whose inclination angle exceeds 35 degrees. SOLUTION: A die shape design value is determined based on a lens shape design value. (1) A provisional die is manufactured by inputting a machining input value based on the die shape design value, into a machine, and the shape from the die center of a molding face of the provisional die to the effective diameter is measured in the direction of a contactor going up along the molding face, using a contact probe type shape measuring apparatus to obtain a die shape measured value. The machining input value is corrected to manufacture a practical molding die using the corrected machining input value. (2) A provisional die is manufactured based on the die shape design value, and a heated molding material is molded to manufacture a provisional lens. The shape from the center portion of the manufactured provisional lens face to the effective diameter is measured in the direction of the contactor going up along the provisional lens face, using the contact probe type shape measuring apparatus to obtain a lens shape measured value, and the die shape design value is corrected to manufacture a practical molding die using the corrected die shape design value. The thin part 22 is so formed as to be adjacent to the thick part 21 and is so formed that the shape on the plane view is approximated to the shape on the plane view of the member for fixing the optical fiber and that the shape on the side view is approximated to the shape on the side view of the member for fixing the optical fiber.
