    • PURPOSE:To improve fault diagnosis accuracy of secondary air supply by diagnosing a fault in an internal combustion engine within a plurality of operating ranges, after detecting the operating condition of the internal combustion engine, and judging the fault of a secondary air supplier in accordance with the output of the respective fault diagnoses of the respective operating ranges. CONSTITUTION:Control device 112 respectively controls an ISCV(idling speed control valve) 111, an ignition plug 113 and a fuel injection valve 114 based on respective detected signals from respective sensors 102, 104, 109, 110 for respectively detecting the operating condition of an internal combustion engine. It also respectively controls a pump 120, which composes a secondary air supply, respective valves 121, 122, 123, and secondary air induced from an introduction hole 116 to an exhaust gas passage 115. It further diagnoses a fault in the internal combustion engine 101. In this case, the control device 112 diagnoses the fault in the secondary air supply in accordance with output of the respective fault diagnoses in respective operating ranges of the internal combustion engine. In other words, the fault is judged by either choosing the logic of respective faults diagnosis output or the logical product of the output or by combining the logical product and the logical sum.

    • PURPOSE:To enable good air-fuel ratio control at all times by learning air fuel ratio compensation coefficient per the predetermined region in the scope of learning, and using the value which is obtained by multiplying the air-fuel ratio compensation coefficient in the upper limit region in the scope of learning by the compensation value due to suction air amount in air-fuel ratio control in the region which exceeds the upper limit of the scope of learning. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection valve 7 is opened and controlled sequentially in synchronization with a signal of a crank angle sensor 18 during the time of injection pulse width which is computed by an air-fuel ratio controller 15 to jet fuel into suction air. This fuel injection amount is compensated in accordance with deviation of air fuel ratio in exhaust gas and target air-fuel ratio based on an output signal of an exhaust gas sensor 14 to feedback-control air-fuel ratio. In this case, the air fuel ratio compensation coefficient is learned and compensated in accordance with deviation, and the air-fuel ratio compensation coefficient is learned per the predetermined region in the scope of learning of suction air amount. On the other hand, as for the region which exceeds the upper limit region in the scope of learning, air-fuel ratio control is done by using the value which is obtained by multiplying the air-fuel ratio compensation coefficient in the upper limit region in the scope of learning by the compensation value due to suction air amount.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce effect of the diagnosis of an abnormality on an exhaust condition by diagnosing the abnormality when at least one amount among the amounts which indicate an engine load condition is in a scope of above a predetermined value in the case where the abnormality is judged when a secondary air supply means which introduces air into an exhaust passage is operated. CONSTITUTION:A secondary air introduction system controls a pump 120 for secondary air, a vacuum cut valve 121, and an air cut valve 122 based on parameters which indicate an engine operation condition by a control unit 112. It promotes the reaction by oxidation of toxic components in exhaust gas such as HC and CO when, for example, an engine is started and purities toxic components in exhaust gas due to catalytic action. In this case, a difference in average values of air-fuel ratio correction coefficient when secondary air is supplied and when it is not supplied is obtained, and if the difference is below a predetermined value, it is diagnosed that a secondary air supply device causes an abnormality. This abnormality is diagnosed in a high load operation condition in which exhaust gas is not worsened and the amount of intake air is large.
