摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost in production of various kinds of panels having two or more kinds of partition wall dimensions by forming a tapered part at an end of a substrate, thereby allowing sealing of a front substrate and a rear substrate by use of only a sealing material containing a spherical spacer having one kind of particle size.
SOLUTION: In the plasma display panel including a discharge space having a predetermined clearance between a front substrate and a rear substrate, which is formed by arranging the substrates in opposition to each other through a clearance dimension regulating member, and sealing the periphery of the substrates with a sealing material, each of the front substrate and the rear substrate includes a tapered part such that the thickness of the substrate is gradually reduced toward the substrate end portion in an arrangement position of the sealing material, and as the sealing material, a glass material containing a spherical spacer having a diameter larger than the clearance dimension between the front substrate and the rear substrate and smaller than a dimension obtained by adding the thickness of the front or rear substrate to the clearance dimension is used.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce erroneous discharge, surely perform address discharge, and improve the luminance by forming an insulating layer in such a way as to generate address discharge at a part in need. SOLUTION: An insulating layer 11 covers a plurality of address electrodes 10 and a prescribed region where the address electrodes 10 and a display electrode 6 formed to be a scan electrode cross each other via at least a discharge space 100 is formed thin. The prescribed regions are varied according to the scope sizes and pixel sizes, however, they have the width of, for example, 0.2 times or more of a barrier rib pitch and the width in the direction of the address electrode 10 is approximately same as this width or more so as to effectively prevent the erroneous discharge. This constitution lowers the leak voltage in this resign and accelerates the address discharge between a desired display electrode 6 and address electrode 10 on this region. This constitution can also provide sure address discharge with the erroneous discharge with an adjoining display electrode 6 suppressed and provide a gas discharge type display having high reliability in display cell selection.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the electric insulating property between a dielectric layer and a protecting layer by forming an insulator layer between an electrode pair and the dielectric layer. SOLUTION: A diffusion preventing layer 50 of conductive fine particles is provided between the bus electrodes 7, 7' of a front substrate 1 and a dielectric layer 8. The thickness of the diffusion preventing layer 50 is set to 0.5 μm or more, whereby diffusion of the conductive particles in the electrode material to the dielectric layer 8 or a protecting layer 9 can be suppressed. However, since the diffusion preventing layer 50 itself is cracked by the difference in thermal expansion coefficient with the dielectric layer 8 or the like when the thickness is too large, the thickness is preferably set to 10 μm or less. In the manufacturing process of the front substrate 1, a paste containing silicon oxide as component is used, and it is printed on the bus electrodes 7, 7', for example, by screen printing, and baked with a prescribed profile to form the diffusion preventing layer 50. In a panel having such a diffusion preventing layer 50, all cells can normally emit light to perform a precise display.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of discharge characteristic originating from MgO film or cracks in the MgO film in panel assembling by thermally treating a protecting film consisting of the MgO film provided on a dielectric layer. SOLUTION: A front plate 1 is formed by forming a display electrode 6, a bus electrode 7, and a dielectric layer 8 successively on a front glass substrate 4, and forming a protecting layer 9 thereon by evaporation of MgO film. Prior to the assembly of the front plate 1 and a back plate 2, the front plate 1 is thermally treated. The thermal treatment temperature is preferably set to 300-400 deg.C. The thickness of the thermally treated protecting layer 9 is preferably set to 0.2-2 μm. In this way, not only moisture but also carbon dioxide gas source can be removed to shorten the evacuation time after assembling and sealing, and the deterioration of discharge characteristic due to the released gas from the MgO film can also be prevented. The thermal expansion coefficient difference between the protecting layer 9 and the dielectric layer 8 or the front glass substrate 3 can be minimized, and cracks during the sealing process in the MgO film can be eliminated almost completely.
