One or more of such fuel spacers having the blocking parts 1 are axially arranged, thereby, a part of the water flowing in the outer circumferential part area is made to run into the internal area to flatten the radial thermal output distribution, and combustion degree and thermal margin are improved.

The recesses 101 are not necessarily limited in a single plane wall of the hollow section 15, and they may be arranged on a plurality of adjacent plane walls across corner sections. Projections 102 longer than the height of the spacer of the hollow section 15 may be provided to support the spacer. The strength of the water rod against deformation can be improved while the quantity of the metal used is not increased.
