摘要： PURPOSE: To prevent the deformation of a core and the generation of bubbles in the boundary at jacketing by bundling core materials regular polygonal in the shape of cross section without gap to load in a quartz tube and collapsing the quartz tube at a high temp. CONSTITUTION: The core material regular polygonal in the shape of the cross section is bundles without gap and loaded in the quartz tube and the quartz tube is collapsed at the high temp. The core material to be used can be the same material as that conventionally used, but it is necessary for the cross section of the core material to be regular polygonal. The core materials are packed without gap at the bundling of the plural core materials and loading in the quartz tube by making the shape of the cross section of the core material not circular but regular polygonal to be in contact with each other in each side of the polygon. Since the core materials are in contact with each other in not point but face, external pressure at collapsing is received by the face and the deformation of the core is prevented.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a multicore optical fiber containing rare earth elements which is capable of amplifying the incident signal light on the inside of the cores even if electric power of the signal light large and realizing a multidistribution transmission system and enables efficient use of exciting light. CONSTITUTION:This multicore optical fiber 1 containing rare earth elements is formed by embedding the plural cores 3 in the single clad 2 and composing the plural cores 3 of glass contg. the rare earth elements. The process for production thereof comprises bundling and inserting plural core rods into a quartz glass tube, heating these core rods and subjecting the quartz glass tube to compression fusing to embed the core rods to produce a preform, then heating this preform and stretching and drawing the preform. The optical amplifier is formed by connecting an optical multiplexer to the incident side of the multicore optical fiber 1 containing rare earth elements and connecting an optical distribution type coupler to the output side.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Er added multicore fiber whose gain wavelength characteristics are flat in the cases of not only low gain but also high gain, and a light amplifier using the fiber. SOLUTION: An Er added multicore fiber 20 has at least cores 22 wherein Er and Al are added in a clad 21 to which fluorine is added. In the longitudinal direction of the fiber 20, a taper type region 23 wherein at least two mode field diameters MFD are changed is installed. The lights traveling in the cores 22 in the Er added multicore fiber 20 mutually interfere with each other. While the lights travel in the taper type region 23, the lights are confined in the cores 22 and outputted. That is, signal lights having wavelengths of 1.53μm or shorter traveling in the tapered region 23 mutually couple with each other, and optical filtering effect is generated. By using the Er added multicore fiber 20 in an optical amplifier, the gain wavelength characteristics are flattened in the cases of not only low gain but also high gain.
