摘要： PURPOSE:To provide the optical circuit which is small in size and high in performance by adopting a glass waveguide structure. CONSTITUTION:The optical circuit is constituted by partly cutting away the middle of the glass waveguide and mounting isolators 9a, 9b, 9c in these parts. 摘要： PURPOSE:To make a gain dependant on a polarized wave and to adjust the gain in a state of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An absolute single plane-of-polarization reserved optical fiber whose X polarized wave and Y polarized wave have different bending loss characteristics is manufactured from an elliptical jacket type plane-of- polarization reserved optical fiber. The combined length is 0.8mm-1.1mm. Er is doped in a core section of the optical fiber. A part of the Er-doped optical fiber is shaped into a coil of a bending radius between 10mm and 50mm. By changing the bending radius of the optical fiber within this range, a gain of only the Y polarized wave can be adjusted with a gain of the X polarized wave being kept constant.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide the optical system of an optical fiber gyroscope for non- industrial use, with which the polarized state does not change easily with varying temp. or application of vibration and which can be constructed simply and at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:Three PM fibers with elliptical core are bundled and fused by heat with their inherent polarization axes adjusted, to form a 3X3 coupler 1, whose central part is made with a smaller dia. One of the three optical fibers constituting the coupler 1 is connected with a light source to serve for connection of the light source wherethrough the light is put incident and emitted, while the remaining two are allowed to serve for output signals to take out the light to be put incident as the left- and right-turning beams at the two ends of a sensing coil 2 and emitted therefrom. The sensing coil 2 is made alike by winding an elliptical core fiber. The two ends of this coil 2 are connected in fusion at two points 5, 5 with emission ports a', c' of the coupler 1, and thus an optical fiber gyroscope is accomplished.

摘要： PURPOSE:To miniaturize a switch, to attain the reduction in cost and to prevent the loss of the switch by providing an optical fiber type element which rotates the plane of polarization of incident light and a polarization beam splitter which branches and emits the light corresponding to the angle of the polarizing plane. CONSTITUTION:A polarization plane rotating element part 2 and an optical fiber type deflection beam splitter 5 are connected through a connection reinforcement part 4 and the polarization plane rotating element part 2 is provided with an electromagnet 10 such as a coil on a polarization plane rotating element 8 by holding a buffer layer 9 therebetween. The polarization plane rotating element 8 being a Faraday rotator is constituted by using a glass which has a large Verdet's constant for a core part, fitting a clad part made of, for example, silica or germanium externally to the core, and sintering and drawing them. In this case, the specific refractive index difference of a fiber is equalized to the specific refractive index difference of the deflection beam splitter 5 which is connected thereafter to reduce the connection loss. Consequently, signal light is emitted from a projection terminal 6 when a magnetic field is applied and from a projection terminal 7 when not, so the function of the optical switch is obtained.

As a result, a transmission power changes by a photoelastic effect according to an angle of rotation of the rotor 2 and the previous calibration of the transmission power and the angle of rotation enables the learning of an angle of rotation from the transmission power received with a light receiver 4 from a light source 3. With the return of the rotor 2 to 0 deg., the resin optical fiber 1 is back to the original state by its own resilience.
