The CO detector 2 prohibits self diagnosis of the CO sensor 23 during the state signal L, while performs self-diagnosis of the CO sensor 23 when the state signal reaches H. An operation time zone of the water heater 1 is learned with the CO sensor 23, and self-diagnosis is performed in the time zone other than the operation time zone.
