    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact wavelength locker which can be built in a TOSA-type LD module mounted to a compact pluggable module.
      SOLUTION: The wavelength locker is provided with a birefringent plate which branches an outgoing light from a light source into two nearly parallel lights, a first photodetection element which photodetects one of the lights branched by the birefringent plate as it is, a λ/4 plate and an etalon filter which the other of the lights branched by the birefringent plate pass through, and a second photodetection element which photodetects the other of the lights having passed through the etalon filter. The λ/4 plate has an optical axis inclined by 45° from the polarization direction of an incident light, and varies the polarization direction of a reflected light reflected by the etalon filter and made incident on itself so as to prevent the reflected light from returning to the light source after passing through the birefringence plate to make the reflected light outgo.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transmission characteristics during wavelength control by adjusting at least one of a setting value of an EA bias input to an electric field absorption type modulator and a setting value of EA temperature of an electric field absorption type modulator according to a wavelength. SOLUTION: In an optical transmitting apparatus, a wavelength-variable light source 110 generates light having a wavelength corresponding to an input wavelength control current. An EA modulator 120 modulates light generated by the wavelength-variable light source 110, on the basis of a modulation characteristic corresponding to an input EA bias. A TEC 130 changes the temperature of the wavelength-variable light source 110 and that of the EA modulator 120 according to an input temperature control current. A control unit 150 adjusts the setting-value of the wavelength control current input to the wavelength-variable light source 110, the setting-value of the EA bias input to the EA modulator 120, and the setting-value of the temperature of the EA modulator 120 according to input wavelength information.
