    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stress on a component inside a housing by offsetting thermal expansion/contraction of the housing and a ferrule.
      SOLUTION: A glass capillary 16 is fixed integrally with a metallic ferrule 14. A metallic sleeve 20 having the same linear expansion coefficient as the housing 12 is fixedly fitted on the outer circumference of the ferrule 14. The material of the ferrule 14, length X from the fixed place P of the sleeve on the ferrule 14 to the tip end Q of the ferrule, and the length Y from the fixed place P of the sleeve to the tip end R of an optical fiber are set so that the expansion/contraction due to change in temperature is offset in the housing, sleeve and ferrule. The glass capillary is integrated with the ferrule, and the part of the optical fiber alone is not present. As a result, the structure is made simple, and the manufacturing and the handling are made easy, thereby enabling the component cost to be reduced. In assembling an optical module, no strict accuracy control is required for the purpose of offsetting the heat contraction.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical ferrule and an optical fiber with the optical ferrule to prevent such a problem as to separate among a sleeve, an optical fiber and an adhesive charged thereinto in order to fix the sleeve and the optical fiber.
      SOLUTION: The optical ferrule 11 has such a structure that a capillary 2 made of ceramic is forced into the front end part of the sleeve 13 made of stainless, for example. Peripheral grooves 13b are formed on the inner surface (adhesive charged part 13a) of the sleeve 13. The optical fiber 4 is inserted into the sleeve 13 and, for example, the epoxy resin-type adhesive 5 is charged and fixed. The peripheral groove part of the cured adhesive 5 becomes a protrusion and a hook, therefore, a connection force between the sleeve 13 and the adhesive 5 is adequately large and the optical ferrule 11 does not easily separate even when an outer force is exerted thereto.
