    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for easily rotating and stopping an image carrier in each mode in which a part of image carriers is not used. SOLUTION: When a second drive gear 82 is driven to rotate in a direction shown by an arrow C in figure, a second movable plate 84 receives drive force from the second drive gear 82 and slides upward in figure. Therefore, a projection part 84a formed on the second movable plate 84 also moves upward. An advancing/retreating member 70k rotates in a direction shown by an arrow D in figure along with the upward movement of the projection part 84a. As a result, an arm part in the advancing/retreating member 70k is turned obliquely upward. In such a state, advancing/retreating members 70y, 70m and 70c do not rotate but only the advancing/retreating member 70k rotates, so that only a photoreceptor-side coupling member 18k is disconnected from a drive-side coupling member corresponding thereto.
