    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a control method of an image forming apparatus with which an adhesive material transferred from transfer means to a photoreceptor can be removed by using developer as a polishing agent.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 comprises: a rotating photoreceptor 2; a charging roll 3 that charges the photoreceptor 2; a transfer roll 9 that is in contact with the photoreceptor 2; a developing roll 7 that supplies developer onto the photoreceptor 2; a controller 20 that advances or delays a timing to apply a charging voltage to the photoreceptor 2 by a time corresponding to a width of a contact part of the photoreceptor 2 and the transfer roll 9 compared with a timing to apply the charging voltage to the photoreceptor 2 when the contact part reaches a position facing the charging roll 3, so that the developing roll 7 provides a band of developer on the contact part with the photoreceptor 2 that is in contact with the transfer roll 9 and has been stopped; and a cleaning device 11 that removes the band of developer provided on the contact part.
