    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner capable of placing an original of relatively small size at a prescribed position, with no increase in the number of components.
      SOLUTION: Relating to a scanner 1, a scanner body 2 is mounted with a glass plate 5 on which an original is placed. A cover member 3 is attached for opening/closing to cover the glass plate 5. The periphery of the cover member 5 is provided with a notch 3a which corresponds to the original whose size is relatively as small as picture size. In the condition where the original of that size is placed on the glass plate 5, the notch 3a lets the glass plate 5 expose the region where the original is placed. In the state for reading an original, the cover member 3 covers the glass plate 5, and the notch 3a engages with an operation panel 7. The cover member 3 can slide in one direction relative to the glass plate 5 with the glass plate 5 covered between the state in which the original is placed and the state for reading.

When the carriage 4 has arrived at one end of the moving route thereof and is converted to return while the engaging projection 19 is collided against the other end 15b of the arm 15, the arm 15 is pivoted counterclockwise and the end unit 15a is lifted up, a wiper holder 7 descends through the pin 18 and the wiper 8 is separated from the printing head 5a.

In the paper feeding passage 34, an embedding section 34a with a support member 37 arranged slidably is formed, and the detection lever 36 is arranged so that the lower end is embedded in this embedding section 34a. When the recording paper P is fed and the detection lever 36 is displaced upward, the support member 37 is displaced consequently in the paper feeding direction, and the part of the recording paper where a force by detection lever 36 is applied is supported. That inhibits the recording paper P from being pressed down by the detection lever 36 and prevents it from being drawn by the transfer roller 3a during the inclination correcting operation having the front end of the recording paper P contacted with the reversing transfer roller 3a.
