    • PURPOSE:To make possible stabilized start/stop control by learning the characteristic of an ultrasonic motor, especially the substantially constant inclination (speed/frequency) thereof, under an arbitrary temperature or load conditions and updating the exciting or driving frequency using the inclination thus learnt. CONSTITUTION:A variable oscillation circuit 6 varies the oscillation frequency based on a code signal set by a CPU 7 and generates four signals having phase difference of 90 deg. through a phase shift circuit 4. In this regard, the CPU 7 perform correction required for stabilized starting. In other words, a motor is started with frequency f0 obtained from stored information representative of a speed lower than a target speed. A speed detecting circuit 5 detects actual rotational speed N of motor at the time of starting. Difference DELTAN between a set target r.p.m. Nf and an actual r.p.m. is calculated. On the other hand, inclination B between rotational speed at the r.p.m. N for the stored motor characteristics and the exciting or driving frequency is determined. Frequency DELTAf to be varied is then calculated from the product of the inclination B and the difference DELTAN.

    • PURPOSE:To make an ultrasonic motor produce no operating sounds when the motor stops. CONSTITUTION:A drive instructing circuit 51 outputs an start signal S1 or stop signal S2 in accordance with an ultrasonic motor turn-on or turn-off instruction inputted against an ultrasonic motor M. When the start signal S1 is outputted, an oscillation circuit 47 starts oscillation and outputs an oscillation signal CL and, when the stop signal S2 is outputted, stops oscillation after outputting the signal CL by 200msec by raising the frequency of the signal. A phase inverting circuit 49 forms a first and second drive signals S4 which are shifted in phase from each other from the signal CL and outputs the signals S4 to a drive circuit 53. The circuit 53 drives the motor M by using the drive signals. At the time of stopping the drive of the motor M, the motor M is driven with a drive signal having a high frequency so as to suppress the generation of progressive oscillatory waves and the motor M slowly stops.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an effective start, and to improve reliability by resetting an oscillator to an initial oscillation frequency when a frequency signal from an output circuit or a feedback circuit reaches a predetermined reference level. CONSTITUTION:If the frequency of an oscillator 39 becomes lower than a starting frequency, the voltage of a F/V converter 47 is increased larger than the reference voltage of operational amplifiers OP2, OP3, a thyristor (SCR)d is turned ON, transistors(Tr) Q6, Q7 are turned OFF, and power supply of an amplifier OP1 is stopped. Thus, the oscillator 39 is not applied by a control signal from the amplifier OP1 and reset. Then, TrQ5 is turned ON by a pulse when the output of the amplifier OP3 is applied to a capacitor C4, and the SCRd is turned OFF. Thus, the Trs Q6, Q7 are turned ON, the amplifier OP1 is operated, and returned to the initial state in which the pulse P1 is applied.

    • PURPOSE:To control the rotation of a motor correctly, by a method wherein a detection circuit, a reference voltage circuit and a comparison circuit are provided with circuits employed upon normal rotation and reverse rotation while the circuits are controlled by different circuits respectively. CONSTITUTION:A DC power source 21 is connected to a power circuit 24 consisting of a driving circuit or an inverter circuit 22 and a control circuit 23 controlling the output of the inverter circuit 22. An ultrasonic motor 25 is connected to the power source circuit 24. The motor 25 is equipped with a sine wave AC input electrode 26, a cosine wave AC input electrode 27, a common potential electrode 28 and an electrode 29 for detection. Said inverter circuit 22 outputs a trigger and the like coinciding with the frequency of an alternating current, for example, by an oscillating circuit 31 and outputs sine wave alternating current as well as cosine wave alternating current from an output circuit 32. A reverse rotation commanding circuit 33 for the motor 25 is connected to the output circuit 32. The control circuit 23 is provided with reference voltage circuits 35a, 35b for normal rotation and reverse rotation together with a detection circuit 34 and a reference voltage circuit 35 while the control circuit is connected to a comparison circuit 36 through a changeover switch 35c by a reverse rotation command.

CONSTITUTION:A signal supply section 47 rotates an ultrasonic motor M by supplying a first drive signal SIN to the piezoelectric diaphragm 11 of the motor through an oscillation circuit 51 and drive circuit 55 and second drive signal COS to the diaphragm 11 through the circuit 51, a phase shift circuit 53, and another drive circuit 57. When the motor M stops, the section 47 stops the output of a signal phi2 from the circuit 53 through a rotation control circuit 49 and phase control circuit 59. When only the first drive signal SIN is supplied to the motor M, generation of progressive oscillatory waves from a conductive elastic body 9 is suppressed and, on the other hand, the diaphragm 11 and elastic body 9 vibrate and generate heat.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce static torque and secure free rotation of a shaft in an ultrasonic motor. CONSTITUTION:An oscillation circuit 47 oscillates to generate a frequency signal f0, which is input to a phase shift circuit 49. Based on the frequency signal f0, the phase shift circuit 49 supplies frequency signals S and S' whose phases are different from each other by 90 deg. to driver circuits 51 and 53. When a switch SW is closed, the phase shift circuit 49 outputs the frequency signals S and S'. The driver circuits 51 and 53 amplify the frequency signals S and S' and supply frequency voltages V and V' to a piezoelectric vibrating plate 11 of an ultrasonic motor through transformers 55 and 57. Receiving the frequency voltages V and V', the piezoelectric vibrating plate 11 generates a traveling oscillatory wave on a conductive elastic material 9. If the phase shift circuit 49 outputs only one of the frequency signals S and S', a standing wave is generated on the conductive elastic material 9.
