摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent projection light from being cut off by a substrate as for the optical device which supports a plurality of optical components by a common support member and positions them mutually by enabling the lateral positions and heights of the optical components to be adjusted with high precision and making the optical axis of a semiconductor laser chip much higher than the substrate. SOLUTION: A chip-shaped 1st optical component is mounted on a common substrate 1 and a spherical 2nd optical component is guided by and mounted in an optical component guide groove 11 which is sectioned in an inverted pyramid shape on the surface of the common substrate 1; and a beam passage groove 17 is formed on the common substrate 1 on the opposite side of the 2nd optical component from the 1st optical component from nearby the optical component guide groove 11 along an optical axis and on the common substrate 1, a beltlike groove 18 is formed crossing the beam passage groove 17 at right angles and overlapping with both the optical component guide 11 and beam passage groove 17, thereby preventing a light beam passing through the beam passage groove 17 from being cut off at a position lower than the surface of the common substrate 17.

摘要： PURPOSE: To improve the degree of freedom in terms of the accuracy of alignment between optical components and the adjustment of optical axis height in an optical device where plural optical components are aligned. CONSTITUTION: A guide groove 26 in which an optical fiber 24 is fitted, and a specified number of grooves 25 in which bumps 27 formed on a semiconductor laser 23 are fitted are formed on a substrate 22 by anisotropic etching. By fitting and fixing the bump 27 on the semiconductor laser 23 in the groove 25 on the substrate 22 and fitting and fixing the optical fiber 24 in the guide groove 26, optical coupling is performed in a state that the optical axes are aligned.

摘要： PURPOSE: To reduce crystal deformation in a part where the core layer of a laser beam diameter conversion waveguide passage gradually becomes thin so as to improve the reliability. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided integrally with a laser beam generating area 51 and laser beam diameter conversion waveguide passage 52. The passage 52 is provided with a thickness gradually-decreasing part 43a constituting part of a core layer 54, upper and lower clad layers 56 and 55, a propagation constant decreasing emphasis layer 57 between the layer 54 and lower clad layer 55, and a propagation constant decreasing emphasis layer 58 between the layer 54 and upper clad layer 55. The layers 57 and 58 have a lower refraction index h12 than those n11 of the layers 55 and 56. The layers 57 and 58 act so as to decrease the propagation constant. Thus, the relative thickness t11 /t10 of the part 54a is 0.7, which is larger compared with the conventional one.
