Then, the X-ray image conversion plate 20 is inserted into an image reader 24 to read an X-ray transmitted image. At this time, the data stored in the memory part 22 of the X-ray image conversion plate 20 is sent to an image reader 24 and used to determine the conditions of the image reproduction. Consequently, a read is made under the best read conditions and the image of good quality is obtained.

The tape 22 and the phosphor layer 1 are rubbed against each other by rotating the roller 23 at this time to polish the surface of the phosphor layer 1.The ruggedness is formed on the rear surface as well in some case. The film 11 is removed and the rear surface side thereof is polished as well in such a case.
