    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely make color corrections by eliminating the color adaption of the eye by taking a measurement by taking measurements by a color measuring instrument while using a black patch as a background for a hard copy image and a color patch matching the patch color of the hard copy image at colorimetric level as the black patch of a background for a soft copy image. SOLUTION: The color patch of an image 12 of a hard copy image 14 on an observation table 16 and the color patch of a display soft copy image 20 on a CRT of the observation table 26 are measured by the color measuring instrument 28 respectively. Here, color corrections are made according to the measured values of the color measuring instrument 28 so that color tone of the color patches of the image 12 and display soft copy image 20 become equal. For the color corrections, the hard copy image has a patch of black or a chromatic color greatly different from an achromatic color in terms of saturation for the background. Further, the soft copy image has a patch of black or a chromatic color greatly different from an achromatic color in terms of saturation for the background as a color patch matching the patch color of the hard copy image at colorimetric level.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the images after processing from having unnatural tint at the time of converting read image data to color space data and processing the data within the color space. CONSTITUTION:An original 10 to be processed is read by an input means 20, such as color scanner or TV camera, and the optical data of every pixel constituting the image of the original 10 is determined. The optical data are sent to a processing system 30. The optical data are first converted to image data (XYZ) of a CIE XYZ color specification system and thereafter, the color desired to make the color after the processing colorless is set and the image data (XYZ) are successively converted to the equal color space (for example, CIEL*a*b* uniform color space) where this color is made reference white (W01). The color space data (L*a*b*) after the conversion are successively reverse converted to the image data of the color specification system before forward conversion with the chromaticity of the colorless color of the output medium as the reference white (W02). The data after the reverse conversion are outputted to a printer 40 and a CRT 70.
