    • PURPOSE:To securely decide which of equipment and an arrester has an accident first after the end of the accident by providing a fuse element formed by charging quartz sand at the periphery of a metallic wire in series with the nonlinear resistance element of the arrester. CONSTITUTION:If the nonlinear resistance element 8d deteriorates during the use of the arrester to cause the through-breakdown or surface flashover of an element, a large current flows in from an upper flange 82 to flow the metallic wire 104 of the fuse element 10. Consequently, the metallic wire is melted and vaporized instantaneously and the quartz sand 105 around an arc is melted with arc heat to bind, thereby forming a hollow arc tunnel. If an insulation container is broken with the pressure in the insulation container before the fault current is cut off by a high-order breaker, the quartz sand is scattered to the inside of an arrester container 8a. Further, when the time until the cutoff of the fault current is short and the insulation container of the fuse element is not broken, the container is broken artificially to confirm whether or not there is the arc tunnel.

    • PURPOSE:To cut off a circuit so as to protect a contact when layer short circuit occurs by connecting a cut-off circuit composed of a switching element and overcurrent detecting resistance to a DC circuit to be protected. CONSTITUTION:A cut-off circuit 10 is constituted by connecting in series a switching element S1 with an overcurrent detecting resistance path R7. When the terminals 1 and 2 of the circuit 10 are connected to a DC circuit to be protected and a power switch S0 is closed, a DC voltage is applied across the base B of the element S1 through a bias resistance R6 and the collector C and emitter E of the element S1 are conducted with each other. When layer short circuit occurs in the DC circuit and an overcurrent flows to the resistance R7, the potential at a connecting point H abruptly rises and the base B of a transistor S2 is conducted, since an electric current is supplied to the base B. Then an electric current flows to the terminal N of a DC power source and an alarm circuit 6 outputs an alarm signal 6S and, at the same time, the potential at the output terminal G of a resistance type potential divider 11 drops and the element S1 is set in a cut-off state. Therefore, the exhaustion of a contact can be prevented by cutting off an electric current when the DC current short-circuits.
