    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plurality of packed particles and compositions absorbing an aqueous fluid more easily to eliminate the need for mixing to form a flowable hemostatic slurry and/or absorbing a physiological fluid more easily by placing them at a site in the body of a mammal requiring hemostasis. SOLUTION: The packed particles have interstitial pores having a pore volume and a median pore diameter effective to provide improved absorption of the physiological fluid or an aqueous medium when placed in contact with the physiological fluid or aqueous medium, compared with a plurality of unpacked particles of the same material, wherein the particles are made of a biocompatible material and a hemostatic agent and have an average diameter suitable for use in providing hemostasis to the site in the body of the mammal requiring hemostasis. The hemostatic composition contains a plurality of such packed particles. A method for producing such particles and compositions, and a medical instrument suitable for containing and delivering the plurality of hemostatic particles and/or compositions to the site in the body are also provided.
