    • PURPOSE:To heighten the color tones and brightness of defect indicating patterns, by jointly using a capillary method and a diffusion method by adding a plasticizer, which is liquid at the normal temperature, to a quick-drying develop consisting of white impalpable powder and a volatile solvent. CONSTITUTION:White impalpable powder 4 and a plasticizer 5, which is liquid at the normal temperature, are dispersed and dissolved in a volatile solvent that is chemically stable to the impalpable powder 4, dissolves the plasticizer 5 and the speed of evaporation is rapid to some extent. When the developer is applied on a surface 1 that flaws are detected thinly and uniformly, the volatile solvent volatilizes, and developing coating films 6 that the plasticizer 5 is held between the surface 1 and the impalpable powder 4 are formed. A permeation liquid 3 remaining in a defect 2 opening to the surface 1 is sucked up by the capillary action and diffusion action of the coating films 6, and defect indicating patterns 7 magnified are made up. Thus, the extension of the patterns 7 is little even when time elapses, and whiteness as backgrounds is sufficiently maintained even when the coating films 6 are thin.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the danger for inhaling of toxicity, inflammability, etc. owing to org. solvents and eliminate problems of pollution owing to waste water after water washing by removing excess penetrant liquid by the use of powder and granules. CONSTITUTION:Upon ending of pretreatment of an object to be inspected, penetrant liquid is adapted and the object is penetrated with said liquid for 10min, after which powder and granules consisting of glass beads and diatomaceous earth are sprayed onto the excess penetrant liquid. The excess penetrant liquid is sucked up and moved to powder and granule layers by the adsorption effect possessed individually by the powder and granules having wide interfaces and the capillarity created between the powder and granules, and therefore the excess penetrant liquid is removed from the surface of the object to be inspected by removing the powder and granules. Next, a developer is coated on the surface of said object and its defect parts are detected. Thereby, the need for using volatile org. solvents, emulsifiers or water is eliminated at all, and the problems caused by inhalant toxicity, inflammability, waste water, etc. are eliminated.
