    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable-compound-containing liquid crystal composition that has strong power to control the liquid crystal alignment after polymerization and that does not cause damage such as image persistence; a polymerizable-compound-containing liquid crystal composition in which a polymerizable compound is satisfactorily compatible with liquid crystal materials and a problem such as deposition does not occur; and a liquid crystal display element to which a liquid crystal alignment capability is provided by polymerization of a polymerizable-compound-containing liquid crystal composition, the liquid crystal display element having an excellent display performance. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains, as a first component, a polymerizable compound represented, e.g. by formula (I-20) or (I-21) as a constitutional element. The liquid crystal display element uses the liquid crystal composition.
