摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus for mounting a sheet type image recording material and recording an image thereon, wherein an image recording material can be accurately positioned without limitation for the width dimension of the material and the latitude for positioning is high, and to provide a notch forming apparatus and a method for recording an image. SOLUTION: A printing plate P located just below the punches 44 of punchers 41a to 41d is punched to form notches. A contact pin 47 of the puncher 41c, 41d is made abut to the deepest portion of the notch. The printing plate P is further made to proceed and the plate is punched at the position below the punches 44 of the puncher 41a, 41b to form deeper notches. That is, as a plurality of notches with different depths can be formed on one end face of the printing plate P by the punchers 41, this invention can appropriately respond to the positioning method on a recording drum 5. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that, when a punch hole for positioning a printing plate on the outer peripheral face of a recording drum and a punch hole for positioning a printing machine are almost simultaneously formed, there is some case where the accuracy of the relative positional relation between these punch holes is not secured.
SOLUTION: The printing plate P is first punched with a punch for measurement by a punching apparatus 10. Before the punch is pulled from the printing plate, the punch hole for positioning a recording drum and the punch hole for positioning the printing machine are successively formed by using a punch for positioning the recording drum and a punch for positioning the printing machine, respectively. Then the punch for measurement is pulled from the plate. As the plate is firmly fixed by the punch for measurement during forming the punch holes for positioning, the accuracy of the relative positional relation between the punch holes for positioning is secured.

SOLUTION: The image recording apparatus is equipped with: a recording drum which rotates as mounting a printing plate on its periphery; a recording head 12 to record an image on the printing plate mounted on the recording drum; a rotary encoder 42 to detect the position of the rotation angle of the recording drum; first and second sensors 21, 22 which can detect the printing plate mounted on the recording drum; a detection range setting circuit 54 which sets the detection range of the first and second sensors 21, 22 depending on the material information of the printing plate, reflectance information of the printing plate and presence or absence and kinds of positioning holes formed in the printing plate; and a judging circuit 56 which accepts signals from the first and second sensors 21, 22 based on the rotation position of the recording drum and the detection range set by the detection range setting circuit 54 and judges the position of the edge of the printing plate mounted on the recording drum.
