    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus for mounting a sheet type image recording material and recording an image thereon, wherein an image recording material can be accurately positioned without limitation for the width dimension of the material and the latitude for positioning is high, and to provide a notch forming apparatus and a method for recording an image. SOLUTION: A printing plate P located just below the punches 44 of punchers 41a to 41d is punched to form notches. The printing plate P is further made to proceed and the plate is punched at the position below the punches 44 of the puncher 41a, 41b to form deeper notches. That is, as a plurality of notches with different depths can be formed on one end face of the printing plate P by the punchers 41, this invention can appropriately respond to the positioning method on a recording drum 5.
