SOLUTION: The color filter for a liquid crystal display device of a semi-transmissive and half-reflective type includes a colored layer for transmitted light of a plurality of colors formed on a transparent substrate, a colored layer for reflected light of a plurality of colors, and an overcoat layer formed so as to cover the colored layers. The overcoat layer has retardation of the thickness direction, and the thickness of the overcoat layer is made to vary depend on the retardation of the colored layer for transmitted light or the colored layer for reflected light so that the retardation of the thickness direction possessed by the stacking part of the colored layer for transmitted light and the overcoat layer becomes uniform, and so that the retardation of the thickness direction possessed by the stacking part of the colored layer for reflected light and the overcoat layer becomes uniform.
