    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator for an airbag capable of reducing weight of a coolant filter. SOLUTION: This gas generator 10 for the airbag has a housing 11 having gas exhaust ports 17, 18, an ignition means chamber storing ignition means 31, 32, and combustion chambers 20, 25 storing gas generation agent and the cylindrical coolant filter 55 is arranged among the combustion chamber and the gas exhaust ports to let combustion gas pass through the coolant filter and exhaust it from the gas exhaust ports. This gas generator is provided with the following requirements. (a) The gas generation agent generates a heating value of 10 to 30 kcal/mol, (b) mass (g) of the coolant filter for gas of 1 mol generated when burning the gas generation agent is 20 to 65 g/mol, and (c) thickness of the coolant filter is 4.0 mm or more.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator for an air bag having a filter with a high cooling effect. SOLUTION: The gas generator has a housing having a gas exhaust port, an ignition means chamber having an ignition means operated by an impact, and a combustion chamber storing a gas generating agent for generating combustion gas by ignition and combustion. A cylindrical filter 65 is disposed between the combustion chamber and the gas exhaust port, and the combustion gas is discharged from the gas exhaust port through the filter. An inner cylindrical shielding plate 66 is arranged inside the cylindrical filter 65, the lower end opening rim of the inner cylindrical shielding plate contacts with a housing bottom surface, the upper end opening rim is arranged so as to provide a space between it and the housing ceiling surface, and a section having high permeability is disposed between the inner surface of the cylindrical filter and the inner cylindrical shielding plate 66. Heat resistance is required in the inner cylindrical shielding plate, so that it is made of metal such as stainless steel. A gas flow is provided by operations of the inner cylindrical shielding plate 66 for grappling the cylindrical filter 65 for cooling the combustion gas from both sides, an outer cylindrical shielding plate 67, a first clearance 71, and a second clearance 72.
