    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more efficiently producing a chlorohydrin by reacting a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon such as glycerol etc., and/or a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon ester with a chlorinating agent.
      SOLUTION: In the method for producing a chlorohydrin, a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon ester is reacted with a chlorinating agent in the presence of at least one or more kinds of compounds selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic acid and a carboxylic acid derivative and a solid catalyst to greatly increase formation of a chlorohydrin.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a chlorohydrin by using a catalyst except a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid derivative and a compound having a carboxylic acid structure, namely a new catalyst except a carboxylic acid-based catalyst in a method for producing the chlorohydrin by reacting a polyhydroxy-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon such as glycerin etc., with a chlorinating agent.
      SOLUTION: It is found that an aldehyde and/or a ketone is used as a catalyst in the method for producing a chlorohydrin. More concretely, a chlorohydrin is produced, for example, by using glycerin as a polyhydroxy-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon. Epichlorohydrin and glycidol are suitably produced by using a chlorohydrin produced by the method.
