    • PURPOSE:To continuously produce the subject compound by adopting a circulating method with a reaction tube, reacting allyl alcohol with chlorine under heat insulated conditions and removing a large amount of reaction heat and heat of solution of hydrogen chloride utilizing the sensible heat of a cooled circulating liquid. CONSTITUTION:Allyl alcohol is reacted with chlorine in hydrochloric acid medium to provide 2,3-dichloro-1-propanol. In the process, a reaction mixture containing the hydrochloric acid medium is cooled with a heat exchanger 3 and circulated through a conduit, i.e. a reaction tube 1 using a pump 2. The allyl alcohol, chlorine gas and hydrogen chloride gas are continuously introduced into the aforementioned liquid and reacted in the passage of the conduit 1 to take a reaction mixture containing the product corresponding to the total number of mol of the fed allyl alcohol from a product taking out pipe 9. Furthermore, the hydrogen chloride gas or hydrochloric acid or both are supplied from a pipe 13 to the remainder. The reaction heat and heat of solution of the hydrogen chloride gas are absorbed by the sensible heat of the circulating liquid. The subject compound in a high concentration can be continuous ly produced in high yield according to the above-mentioned method.

Thereby, the objective compound expressed by formula I is obtained.
