    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and accurately detect the positions of both eyes with high reliability, relating to the facial image of a person. SOLUTION: A reference single-eye image which does not have difference between the right and the left to be used as reference of both eyes is prepared (S1) and is disposed by overlapping on a predetermined overlapping position on the facial image of the person who becomes an object to be detected (S2), while calculation for acquiring the degree of similarity of overlapped portion of both images is performed, regarding a plurality of overlapping positions which become first candidates; then each degree of similarity is acquired (S3). Among the first candidates, second candidates are selected, by removing candidates whose degree of similarity are smaller than the threshold (S4); candidates whose degree of similarity, relating to a horizontal direction on the face image indicate the maximal value, are set to be third candidates (S5); and then predetermined number whose degree of similarity being large are made to be fourth candidates from among them (S6). A pair of overlapping position where image frames do not overlap each other and have similar bilateral symmetry are decided as a final candidate (S8), by removing those whose positions are close from the fourth candidates (S7).
