    • PURPOSE:To enhance safety in cultivation at about 90 deg.C, by containing at least a carboxyalkyl cellulose having 1-4C alkyl groups and a polyvalent metallic salt and preparing a composition for a culture medium. CONSTITUTION:A carboxyalkyl cellulose having 1-4C alkyl groups and a polyvalent metallic salt are previously pulverized in a pulverizer, such as ball mill, as finely as possible and homogeneously blended. The above-mentioned blend is then added to water containing a predissolved substance required by microbial cells and stirred to prepare a gelatinous composition for a culture medium. The blending ratio of the carboxyalkyl cellulose to the polyvalent metallic salt is preferably 100pts.wt. of the former to about 1-200pts.wt. of the latter. Aluminum chloride, aluminum acetate, ferrous chloride, ferric chloride, copper salt, calcium salt, etc., are cited as the polyvalent metallic salt.
