    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat plate light source having high luminance and high emission uniformity.
      SOLUTION: This flat plate light source has a first substrate, a second substrate, a seal part, two or more groups of dielectric patterns, and a phosphor layer. The first substrate has an electrode on it. The seal part is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and an air gap portion is formed between the first substrate, the second substrate, and the seal part. These groups of the dielectric patterns are formed in the air gap part between the first substrate and the second substrate. The dielectric pattern in each group has at least two dielectric strips, and each dielectric strip covers one of the corresponding electrodes. Each dielectric strip is equipped with a top face and two side faces, and the top face has a nonuniform profile. The phosphor layer is disposed between two dielectric strips of the dielectric pattern of each group, and the phosphor layer is additionally formed on the top face of the dielectric strip.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source endowed with a high luminance and a high luminous uniformity.SOLUTION: The planar light source is provided with a first substrate, a second substrate, a sealing part, a plurality of groups of dielectric patterns, and a phosphor layer. The first substrate has an electrode on it. The sealing part is arranged between the first substrate and the second substrate, and gap parts are formed between the first substrate, the second substrate and the sealing part. These groups of the dielectric patterns are formed in the gap part between the first substrate and the second substrate. Each of the groups of dielectric patterns has at least two dielectric strips, and each of the dielectric strips covers one of corresponding electrodes. A height between the first substrate and the second substrate is held between a plurality of barrier ribs which do not cross the dielectric strips each other. Each of the dielectric strips has an upper surface and two side surfaces, and the upper surface has an uneven outline. The phosphor layer is arranged between the two dielectric strips of each group of the dielectric patterns, and a phosphor layer is further formed on a convex part and a concave part of the dielectric strip.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat fluorescent lamp which provides better luminous efficiency by using sufficient discharge electric field, and to provide a liquid crystal display device of better display brightness and display performance by using the flat fluorescent lamp.
      SOLUTION: The flat fluorescent lamp comprises a first substrate having at least one of first cavity, a second substrate having at least one of second cavity, discharge gas, an electrode set, a dielectric layer, and a fluorescent material. The first substrate and the second substrate are connected facing each other so that a discharge space is formed between the first cavity and the second cavity. The discharge gas, the fluorescent material, and the electrode set are all placed in the discharge space. The electrode set is put between the first and second cavities so that almost all of discharge electric field of the discharge space formed from insides of both cavities is distributed between the electrodes. The liquid crystal display device using this flat fluorescent lamp is also proposed.
