    • PURPOSE: To conduct a biological treatment of waste water stably for a long period of time by a method wherein a portion of waste water cleaned by a biological oxidizing treatment part packed with a particulate material of a specific gravity of 1 or below is passed through an aeration part and a particulate material circulating part together with the particulate material discharged from the oxdizing treatment part.
      CONSTITUTION: Raw water supplied through an inlet pipe 4 is introduced as a downflow into the biological oxidizig treatment part 1 packed with the particulate material which has a specific gravity of not larger than 1 and which is accompanied by microorganism adhered on its surfaces, and a contact treatment is conducted. The cleaned raw water is taken out from the part 1 through a lower part 7 and is discharged as treated water to the exterior of the system through an outlet pipe 8, while a portion of the treated water is passed through the particulate material circulating part 3 and flows into the oxidizing treatment part 1. The particulate material separated from the treatment part 1 passes through the aeration part 2, enters the circulating part 3 by passing over a distributer 6 and returns to the treatment part 1. This circulation of the particulate material A is continuously conducted, forming a transporting layer.
