    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the increase of a density unevenness due to a deviation between the predicted density unevenness and an actual density unevenness concerning density unevenness correction in banding.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming part 60 including rotors to perform image formation based on image data. The image forming part corrects banding, based on correction information corresponding to the phases of the rotors concerning the periodic banding in a sub-scanning direction. Specifically, the apparatus includes: a CPU 21 for performing control to form an inspection image 39 to determine whether the banding is suppressed to be smaller than a prescribed threshold concerning an image to be formed by the image forming part; and a density sensor 71 for detecting the intensity of the periodic banding in the sub-scanning direction of the formed inspection image. When it is determined that the banding is not suppressed to be smaller than the prescribed threshold, based on the detected intensity of the banding, the CPU 21 performs control not to correct the banding or to reset correspondence between the phases of the rotors and the correction information.
