    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process by which the dihalomethyl group of a dihalomethyl-substituted aromatic compound having a trifluoromethyl group as a substituent can be hydrolyzed in a short time.
      SOLUTION: The process for the production of formyl-substituted aromatic compounds which comprises hydrolyzing a dihalomethyl-substituted aromatic compound represented by general formula (1) into the corresponding formyl-substituted aromatic compound in the presence of an iron salt, wherein an aldehyde compound and an iron salt are dissolved in the dihalomethyl-substituted aromatic compound prior to the occurrence of hydrolysis, and after the resulting reaction system reaches a reaction temperature sufficient to cause the hydrolysis, water is added to the reaction system at a rate that does not exceed the rate of consumption of water. In general formula (1), Ar is an aromatic ring; X is a halogen atom; Rs are each independently a monovalent organic group which may be different from each other; and l is an integer of 1 to 3, m is an integer of 1 to 5, and n is an integer of 0 to 5, with l, m and n satisfying the relationship: 1≤l+m+n≤6.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent UV deterioration by oxidation-polymerizing a soln. of zinc 2-ethyl hexanoate in linoleic acid, adding specified solvent and additive to the polymer to obtain a coating soln., applying the soln. on the surface of a sheet glass, baking the soln. and then applying a conventional paint thereon. CONSTITUTION:From 60 to 100 pts.wt. of fatty acids including linoleic acid calculated as the linoleic acid and an appropriate amt. of solvent are added to 100 pts.wt. of zinc 2-ethyl hexanoate and mixed, the mixture is heated at 150-250 deg.C for >=1hr in an oxygen-contg. atmosphere and oxidation-polymerized, and then the solvent is removed to obtain a solid polymer. To 150-250 pts.wt. of this polymer, 150-850 pts.wt. of org. solvent and 3-25 pts.wt. of silicone oil or an acrylic polymer are added to obtain a coating soln. A colored glass is dipped in the soln., dried and then calcined to form a ZnO coat, and then a paint selected from urethane resin, epoxy resin, acrylic resin, aminoalkyd resin, phthalic resin, vinyl resin, silicone resin, polyester resin and melamine resin is applied to obtain an exterior colored glass.
