    • PURPOSE: To obtain a large full regulating distance by performing a transfer to a second oblique control edge toward a pump working chamber in a plunger longitudinal direction via a step part and making space between the second oblique control edge and a second end face side control edge smaller than a diameter of a control opening. CONSTITUTION: A pump plunger 1 can be rotated and has a control notch 22 which is formed by two oblique grooves on the peripheral surface and cooperates with a control opening 11. A transfer part between a first oblique control edge 26 and a second oblique control edge 30 of each different gradient is formed by a step part 32 extending in a plunger longitudinal direction. This step part 32 is arranged at a height of the transfer part between control edges 14, 18 on first and second end face sides, that is, a location matched with the transfer part from viewpoint of the plunger longitudinal direction. Space between the first oblique control edge 26 and the first end face side control edge 14 is made larger than the length of the control opening 11, that is, the diameter. Space between the second oblique control edge 30 and the second end face side control edge 18 is made smaller than the diameter of the control opening 11.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine which is capable of effecting pre-injection and main injection suitably, and can be manufactured at inexpensive cost. CONSTITUTION: A pump piston enclosing a pump work chamber 5, reciprocates in a cylinder bush 2 inserted into a pump housing 1. The pump piston has a control recess on its jacket face that communicates with the pump work chamber through a conduit 39. The recess has an oblique groove 19 extending at a predetermined angle from the axis of the pump piston in the jacket face thereof and forming control edges 21, 22. An annular slide 13 is axially displaceable on the pump piston and includes two diametrically opposed control bores 41. To interrupt the high pressure pumping to provide a pre-injection and a main injection, pockets 25-27 are machined into the jacket face of the pump piston. These pockets cooperate with pockets 42 machined in the annular slide and with a control edge 45 formed by the lower edge of the annular slide.
