To change the flat bed condition to a free arm condition, front end of the auxiliary bed 7 is pulled toward an operator to cause the supporting plate 17 to rotate counterclockwise, and form a clearance between a flat bed 5a and rear end of the auxiliary bed 7b. Sewing operation is possible with hands placed on the auxiliary bed top 7c whether the sewing machine is in a flat bed condition or in a free arm condition.
