    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of continuing printing by avoiding use of a plurality of abnormal dots when the malfunction occurs and of checking a defective element causing the abnormal dots in a short time.
SOLUTION: It is determined that a part of continuous range in all the heating elements of a thermal head 15 is to be a check region, and then quality of each of heating elements in the region is checked. Information of a defective element is recorded in a data memory section 18. In the case where the defective element is in either one of bars in a bar code formed according to print data, the bar code is shifted within a set range. When the use of the defective element can be avoided, the bar code is reproduced to be printed on the shifted position. Particularly, even when there is a defective element block having continuous defective elements or many defective element blocks are dispersed, the bar code is shifted so as to avoid the use of the defective element within the set range.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attempt a downsizing of an apparatus and space saving in relation to an apparatus for sticking a label made of paper sheets.
SOLUTION: On a loading stand 101 inclined downward in the carrying direction, a bundle of registered mail matters M is held in a perpendicular posture, and its surface is pressed by a pressing plate 102 to convey it by its own weight. At its terminal end part, a separating and feeding section 100 wherein only the frontest part of the registered mail matters M is separated by a separating and feeding means 103 and is conveyed in the lateral direction, is provided. The surface of the registered mail matter M separated and conveyed is photographed by an image pick-up section 200, and based on the image data, the label stuck on a mount tape 401 sent from a label feeding section 400 is printed in a printing and sticking section 300, and this label is stuck on the back surface of the registered mail matter M by air blowing. It is possible to realize the downsizing of the apparatus and space saving as the registered mail matter M is perpendicularly carried, and its maintenance is facilitated as each of functional sections can be arranged in the horizontal direction to the conveying section.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate end feed paper sheets with high precision by a simple constitution.
SOLUTION: Bundled registered mails M are held to a vertical posture and fed on a placing stand 101, which is inclined downward in a feed direction, under their own weights while the surfaces of them are pressed by a pressing plate 102 and only the foremost registered mail M is separated at the terminal part of the placing stand by a separation and feed means 103 to be fed laterally. When a pressing force detecting sensor 146 is turned ON by the heavy pressure of the registered mail M, an arranging means 104 is operated to reversely rotate friction belt devices 113,114 and 115 and the only the foremost registered mail M is fed by a lateral feed means 105 while the other mails are returned rearward to prevent the overlap feed of the registered mails M. Further, since the end part of the second registered mail M is sucked in a sub-chamber 106, the overlap feed of the registered mails M is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To insure a strong clamping force against acting on held goods when a clamping claw is closed, to give no damage to the clamped goods and to facilitate setting clamping force by opening the clamping claw due to the rotation of a slew plate when a power source is turned on and closing the clamping claw up to the position of an abutting part by the energizing force of an elastic body when the power source is turned off. CONSTITUTION:With a switch in an on state, a cartridge 17 can be released from the clamped stage by the clamping claws 10 and 11. With the switch in an off state, the elasticity of a spring 15 narrows the clamping claws 10 and 11 up to the prescribed interval decided by the positions of oblong holes 9a and 9b, thereby clamping the cartridge 17. Namely, when the cartridge 17 is clamped, a motor 1 is not driven, and the cartridge is clamped at the interval decided by the positions of the oblong holes 9a and 9b. Accordingly undue clamping force is not applied to the cartridge 17, which can be found in a conventional embodiment, and the cartridge 17 is not damaged even if clamping is repeated.
