    • PURPOSE: To reduce the irregularity of the exposure quantity of ultraviolet rays to an article to be irradiated by controlling the exposure quantity of ultraviolet rays corresponding to a change in the concn. of ozone generated accompanied by the irradiation with ultraviolet rays to keep the same constant. CONSTITUTION: An ultraviolet treatment apparatus consists of a chamber to which an exhaust duct 4 is connected, the low pressure mercury lamp 1 provided in the chamber as a light source emitting ultraviolet rays and the means feeding an article 2 to be irradiated and the means controlling the sampling point 7 of an ozone densitometer and the exposure quantity of ultraviolet rays is provided in the ultraviolet treatment apparatus. The article 2 to be irradiated is subjected to ultraviolet treatment by irradiating the article 2 to be treated with ultraviolet rays emitted from the low pressure mercury lamp l. At this time, the exposure quantity of ultraviolet rays is controlled corresponding to a change in the concn. of ozone generated accompanied by the irradiation with ultraviolet rays to be kept constant. The control of the light source emitting ultraviolet rays is performed by altering the irradiation time of ultraviolet rays or the output of the light emitting ultraviolet rays.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp the particle sticking state of a substrate in a surface processing stage by providing a particle counter which measures the number of particles sticking on a substrate in a substrate conveyance path. SOLUTION: A substrate processing chamber 1 is provided with a substrate conveying mechanism 2 side by side. The particle counter 4 is provided halfway in the vacuum suction path 3 of the substrate conveying mechanism 2 in the substrate conveyance path between the substrate processing chamber 1 and substrate conveying mechanism 2. The conveying mechanism 2 sucks the glass substrate 7 while taking it out of a cassette 6, and releases the substrate from being sucked after setting it on a substrate base 8 in the processing chamber 1. During this period, the particle counter 4 measures particles for a certain time. The particle counter 4 calculates the number of particles per unit volume from the volume in the vacuum suction path 3 from a suction hole 9 to the particle counter r4 and records it in a recorder 5.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove an unnecessary liquid crystal and a foreign matter stuck to an outer circumferential surface or between substrates of a liquid crystal display panel comprising two substrates within a short processing time. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal cell (a panel to be cleaned) 20a mounted on a processing stage 1 is made to be coaxially rotated in synchronization with a reference panel 5 mounted on a rotating stage 4. A cam 6 is always in contact with an end face of the reference panel 5 and, following variation of an outer circumferential surface position of the reference panel 5 in accordance with the rotation thereof, transfers in the circumference direction. Corresponding to this movement of the cam 6, a cleaning nozzle 9 arranged on the outer circumference of the liquid crystal cell 20a transfers in the circumference direction of the liquid crystal cell 20a and sprays a cleaning liquid 10 on the outer circumferential surface. Thereby the unnecessary liquid crystal and the foreign matter attached to the outer circumferential surface or between the substrates of the liquid crystal cell 20a are efficiently removed. Also in the case of changing of a size of the liquid crystal cell 20a, all that is necessary is only to change the size of the reference panel 5 into the same size as that of the liquid crystal cell 20a, and a device stop time is shortened and consequently productivity of a liquid crystal display device is improved and a manufacturing cost thereof is reduced.
