The optical signals transmitted through different sensing fields 9 are converted into electric signals by a photo-sensor 7 when a shutter is left open. and amplified 6 individually for the respective fields. Accordingly it is possible to change the X-ray sensing efficiency for each sensing field 9. The X-ray sensing electric signal faving different X-ray efficiency is fed to an exposure control device 5. Therein an X-ray irradiation stop signal is given when the integrated quantity of the sensing signals has attained a value equivalent to the irradiation with an X-ray dosage corresponding to the proper density.

Accordingly, in the case that the body thickness of an examinee is not so thick, the control by the X-ray condition setting device 2 is conducted, and in the case that the body thickness of the examiniee is thick, and in addition, in the case that the control is not enough even if the voltage and the tube current of an X-ray tube 4 are made maximum, the control by a TV diaphragm 8 can be conducted, and the highy precise adjustment of a luminance level can be conducted always independently of the body thickness of the examinee.
