      SOLUTION: The square battery includes a lid 3 having a bottom part 6 positioned in an opening of a container 1, and a stage part 7 positioned above the bottom part 6 and protruding more outward than the bottom part. The method of manufacturing the square battery includes the steps of: arranging the bottom part 6 of the lid 3 in the opening of the container 1 in which a positive electrode and a negative electrode are housed, and arranging the stage part 7 of the lid 3 at the upper end 1a of the opening part of the container 1; and laser-welding the stage part 7 of the lid 3 to the upper end 1a of the opening part of the container 1 by emitting laser beams from a direction perpendicular to a surface where the stage part 7 of the lid 3 overlaps the upper end 1a of the opening part of the container 1.

The lid body 22 and the plug body 23 are separated until the lid body 22 comes into contact with the plug body 23 in a manner to cover an intake port 20. The plug body 23 is formed of a hollow elastic member, so that when the sealing plug 21 is pressed in the intake port, the plug body 23 is stuck to an inner wall part of the intake port, and the sealing plug 21 and the battery sealing body 10 are sufficiently welded to make sealing certain. Therefore, a sealed battery having high reliability can be provided.
