    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner exhibiting high glossiness without inhibiting low-temperature fixability and a hot offset property.SOLUTION: The toner is obtained by: preparing an organic solvent solution or dispersion of a toner resin material containing a binder resin, a prepolymer comprising a modified polyester resin and an active hydrogen group-containing compound together with a colorant and a release agent; subjecting the solution or dispersion to a crosslinking reaction and/or an elongation reaction in an aqueous medium dispersion liquid; and removing the solvent. The prepolymer is derived from an unmodified polyester that is a precursor of the prepolymer; and the unmodified polyester is a polyester having an alcohol having a carbon ring as a copolymer component. The molecular weight Mpt at the maximum peak of the unmodified polyester satisfies 14000≤Mpt≤21000. An average number F of functional groups that is reactive for elongation or crosslinking, included in one molecule of the prepolymer, satisfies 1.8≤F≤2.2. A gel fraction G as an insoluble content in methyl acetate included in the toner satisfies 13≤G≤21 (wt.%).
